Amason at SXSW 2015

I'm seeing Amason at SXSW 2015 http://schedule.sxsw.com/2015/events/event_MS31432. This is the second to last show of the day. Think 60"s electronic Swedish band. Very swirly and happy. I like the sound, but the stage performance was timid at best. This band has a great picture posted on the SXSW site. However, their overall appearance is less than dramatic. Now, I'm not one to judge a book by its cover and I am certainly don't want to imply all bands must be decked out in their finest. But, the curly hair and baseball cap gives off the "hey we just got out of bed" look. Sorry don't dig it.

Very ethereal and clever. She speaks into the mic and mixes the sound back while she speaks or sings over herself. Very cool effect.

Interesting, bug where is Cilantro Boombox? Later, we found out this drum band was stalling for Cilantro, but I can't verify that.

Elliot Brood

Elliot playing at the Toronto Day Party at the Canada House. A great upbeat country rock sound.

Grounders

Swung back over to the Toronto Day Party to catch the Grounders. Sounds a little Elvis Costello like. But that's only after l listen to the last 5 minutes of the last song.

Arrows of Love

Arrows can be used in war, for shooting apples on top of people's heads, or they be used for love. Arrows of Love does just that, with driving guitar rhythms over loud boat horn-like keyboard cords. While I don't love their title track, they have a lsound that seems retro, new wave, punk.

Whitehorse

Whitehorse is playing at the Toronto Day Party. Kind of a cross between Melissa Etheridge and the B52s. No wait, Georgia Satellites and Loretta Lynne. Or maybe Gordon Lightfoot and the Backstreet Boys. Oh heck, I don't know but they are really good.

Houndmouth

Late start. We grabbed breakfast at a BBQ food truck on Red River St., then headed to our first show. Houndmouth had several official shows, but we kept running into conflicts and timing issues with other bands. So we finally caught them at the Tumblr IRL party.

A no show and a bail.

Next two venues were no gos. Really wanted to see X Ambassador at Uproxx, but they wouldn't let anybody in. People in the line said the band never showed.

So then we hit Maggie Mae's Gibson room to listen to Kid Oliver only to find out the stage monitors busted during the show so the band left after three songs. We're hanging out at Parish Underground, listening to Elliot Brood's last two songs.

Tried to avoid running into a tall guy heading toward me. But, no matter how I change my course he matched mine. Totally ran into me blocking me with his elbow to my chest. Said something like "whats your problem?" I never no how to handle those situations, except not to give him and the opportunity or a chance to escalate. Whatever dude. I'm just as tall as you so let's not get all turf war. I got a show to catch go catch yours or go home. It's SXSW learn to deal with the crowd.

Grab two slices of chicken BBQ pizza and then off to see Matt Mayfield at the Chuggin' Monkey.

Really enjoyed the part where he asked the audience to join. The chorus singing "na na, na na, na na" simple and cool.

Brooks GTS shoes rock

Yesterday, I wore my hiking boots at SXSW and my feet were killing me by 7:00 pm. I woke up this morning and my Achilles tendanitus was agitated. My Achilles tendon wad really sore. So this morning, I switched to my Brooks GTS shoes and after 5 hours of walking and standing my feet are feeling much better.

These shoes make my feet sing. Go Brooks.
