Mike Mains and The Branches

Was going through some old e-mail and stumbled across a recommendation from friend; Mike Mains and the Branches.  Good sound.

I've also have been thinking about moving this blog to WordPress or figuring out how to convert this to twitter.  I find most musical festivals are more integrated with twitter, probably because it's easier to tweet quick comment about a band than it is to write some sort of lengthy blog post.

I have so many social accounts. It's time to pair them down.  Would I be more included to post stuff about my musical discoveries if I tweeted?  Does anyone really read my blog anyway?  Would anyone read my tweets?  So much has been said and written on the subject of stale blogs and silent social network accounts.

Anyway, this is supposed to be a hobby so I will think on it some more. No need to pressure myself with a timeline and an aggressive migration plan.

Andrew Baker

Just saw the coolest performance at Coffee Oasis in Seabrook. Andrew Baker plays something called a halo drum.

Kat Edmonson

Caught a recording showing of Kat Edmonson, known for "Lucky" on my DVR. Original air date was January 19, 2013. Her eclectic sound reminds me of a poppy throwback to a1930's female artist.

Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend was the second to last show.  They have a slightly pulp fiction sound mixed with Paul Simon. Or is it Paul Simon mixed with Johnny Klegg? I don't know.

Parenthetical Girls.

Punkish, New Wave. Little hints of Depeche Mode or Ultravox due to their keyboard configuration.

Repeat performance by Ivan and Alyosha

At the Ten Oak. Nice place and the band is worth another viewing.

Bronze Radio Return

Any band with radio in their name is alright by me. But I'm in a place called Rebel Honky Tonk. They have a mechanical bull. Somebody SAVE me.

Lighthouse and the whaler

Something I can dance too. But unfortunately I have no video of me dancing. That's a little narcissistic .

Stephen Kellog

Good male singer/songwriter

Frightened Rabbits

Be verwy, verwy scared. The feightened rabbits are playing. Seriously, good sound; hard rock that isn't hard. More like medium well rock.

Parlotones

British scene was like jello, falling asleep standing up. So we made a spontaneous decision to abandon our meticulously planned schedule and go to what was once Paradise Bar and Grill. Much better tunes.  I don't know what the name of this venue is today.

Very cool song. Don't know title but chorus goes "Should we fight back, should we swallow our pride?"   I Googled these lyrics and of course the song is called "Should we fight back"  Great song!

Mary Epworth

9 hours left to SXSW, and we are off to the British music venue at Latitude 30. Video later.

Ginger and the Ghost

Sound reminds me of Kate Bush.

The Audreys

More Australian music.

The Falls

Australian artist with a mini string orchestra. Video later.

Andy Clockwise

Start off the Aussie BBQ with an Australian rock. Picture is far away because I'm not giving up my spot in the food line.

What Made Milwaukee Famous.

What made Milwaukee famous? I have know idea and I'm really tired after a walk down to the river, where my one of my favorite bands is playing. Their was way to much gain coming over the speakers. The whole building shook with the bass of the guitars, which made it difficult to enjoy some the bands complex sounds.

Hey Ocean

Exhausted with two shows to go.

You HAVE to be able to tolerate crowds

SXSW gets crowded at night!  SXSW registrants mix with the Austin crowd on 6th Street to produce a phenomenal scene.  Sometimes the street is so packed it gets difficult to move.  SXSW is about tolerance and patience.  My favorite thing to do in these large crowds is to hold my camera up as I high as I can reach and get a 7+ foot view of the crowd ahead of me.

Skinny Lister

Acoustic band that toured with Flogging Molly. Not your typical English folk group.

Yearbook Committee

Folksie rock.

Said the Whale

I'm way to close for a band group pic. Individual shots of the guitarist, drummer and keyboarder.

Brodka

They have an interesting video about food. That's all I can say on the web. As for their sound another electronically rhythmically driven sound. Female vocals are slightly reminiscent of Souixe and The Banshees.

Blaudzun

Not much to say here. The band was good, but not good enough to trek to Esther's Follies and check out the band playing there.

Diamond Rings

If you crossed David Bowie with Human League you get Diamond Rings. Bit slower but still; a nice sound.  Normally, he has more electronic equipment so his acoustic performance was a surprise to my friend, Jim.  I forget where we are, but the place has an awesome atmosphere for acoustic performances.  Very mellow place.  To get a feel for his more popular sound, you can view His video,  "I'm just me".

Wild Club

Poppish music. Wee bit of Talking Heads guitar and Elvis Costello-like vocals throughout their songs. Intoxicating rhythm from the guitars, builds a great sound. Vocals are awesome. Great driving sound.

Rah Ra

Free beer

Told the bartender I wanted New Castle. She tought I said two castles.

J.D. Twitch

Best way to describe this sound is Scottish, New Way Electronic.

If you crossed Utah Saints with Euro Pop infusion you woul get something that sounds like J.D. Switch.

Iman Baildi

Greek rock rap. I'm. Not into rap, but this is a good sound.

Royal Teeth

Interesting story will follow when I have to fill in detail. There first song was awesome. One drummer, another digital and Tom-Tom, and the lead singer had yet another drum. Mixing testosterone beats either keyboard and the female vocals brings a very intensely driven melody.

So freaking cool. He plops th drum in front of me.

Cold Fronts

Up to the roof at Maggie Mae's.

The Trouble with Templeton

Love the Sonic Bids Party. Hang at Maggie Mae's and enjoy lots of bands, while having free food and drinks.

More bands to cone every 30 minutes.

Marnie Stern

Last show for the day. Battery at 12%. Will try to get a pic after they start.

Telekinesis

Imaginary Cities

Amanda Shires

Smoosh, but wait we changed our name to Chaos Chaos

Seriously we changed our name to Chaos Chaos, because...well that sounded more chaotic.

Two girls with an electronic sound. Their sound is distinct due the pizza baking tin mounted over the bass drum. Home made system adds a metallic tinny sound to the percussion. I am afraid of the the black orbish device. Looks like the expertise scout droids on the ice planet Hotj.

Night Beds

Good mellow music. Clip to be posted later.

Chasing Dragons

Poppy electro sound. Happy shiny music. Video clip coming later.

Sidney York

Good driving, steady beat. Love the orange guitar.

Lissie

Lost posting on last upload. Quick brain dump to remember what they were about. Schedule for her member band three guys one girl really rocking sound.

picture got lost Jerei some weird connection fiasco.

Braids

Electronic sound.
